The Food Bank Singapore launches directory of food support
More than 150 organisations providing food aid are listed
Singapore – November 22, 2022 – The Food Bank Singapore (FBSG) today launched The Feeding Directory (FindFoodSupport.sg) to help those looking for food support near them.
More than 150 of FBSG’s feeding partners located across Singapore are listed in the directory.
Food aid is not new to Singapore with many groups providing assistance to the hungry since the nation’s independence. However, according to The Hunger Report Part II released in March, only 22 percent of those identified as food insecure households are receiving assistance.
“To achieve our goal of ending food insecurity in the next few years, FBSG feels that it is vital to find a way to let those in need know where the aid is,” said Nichol Ng, Co-founder of FBSG.
The Feeding Directory connects social workers, food insecure households and anyone in search of food support to organisations that provide food aid such as cooked meals, food vouchers, food rations, and even daily essentials from FBSG’s The Food Pantry vending machines.
Created after extensive groundwork, the website lets people search for food support by type of help needed, location of the nearest support organisations, and food and beverage (F&B) outlets that are part of FBSG’s Bank Card programme.
“The Feeding Directory is not just for populating locations of non-governmental organisations within our network, but also aims to become a national feeding directory where all organisations with a feeding programme will be listed. We are asking charities and the public to inform us if they know of more food programmes in Singapore. In isolation, we can do little but as a collective, we can move the needle for those facing hunger issues,” said Ng.
