October 11, 2021 – The Food Bank Singapore (FBSG) today calls all car drivers to join its fight against food insecurity at the Drive Hunger Away event over two weekends – October 16 and 17, and 23 and 24.
Flagging off in conjunction with World Food Day on October 16, this year’s edition aims to bring a smile to beneficiaries as participating drivers deliver food bundles filled with local brands to them. And due to the overwhelming response last year, the event has been extended from three to four days to give more drivers the opportunity to participate.
FBSG is targeting to receive 100 tonnes of food donations (about three times the amount collected last year) and deliver 1,300 food bundles to 11 beneficiary centres that serve low-income households who cook. These centres are Bethel Community Services, Darussalam Mosque, Fei Yue FSC Bukit Batok, Lakeside FSC (Jurong East), REACH Community Services, Rotary FSC, Social Health Growth, The Salvation Army Balestier, The Salvation Army Kallang Bahru, Thye Hua Kwan FSC (Jurong), and United Indian Muslim Association.
About 450 cars from 18 car clubs have signed up to show their support in donating, collecting and delivering food bundles to FBSG’s warehouse at XPACE, 218 Pandan Loop. The participating car clubs are:
1. Audi R8 & Nissan GTR Owners Club
2. Bolt Group

Making it fun and enjoyable
While the pandemic has resulted in various restrictions, FBSG is sparing no efforts in making this event as fun and enjoyable as possible for all involved.
“The Food Bank Singapore is more than just about providing staples and food to fill tummies. We wanted to continue the trend that we have built over the years of creating innovative and interesting projects for donors, volunteers and partners. Not only do we want to raise awareness of hunger and why the fight needs to continue especially during these unusual times, but we also want to achieve our mission and purpose in a fun and enjoyable manner,” said Nichol Ng, Co-founder of FBSG.
Individual drivers can participate by sending their donations to FBSG’s warehouse on October 24, 2021 from 10am to 1pm.
Members of the public can drop their food donations at collection points in malls and Shell petrol kiosks across the island, where cars will collect from and deliver the food items to FBSG.
