Elsa Tan

I did my research online to find out the food items needed and came up with a shopping list. I managed to buy things like peanut butter, noodles and canned food. It was very fun and meaningful!” – Elsa, 9 yrs old.

Elsa Tan has been helping deliver monthly food rations with her family since she was 6 years old. She attended FBSG’s Juniors Club session last year where she developed a deep understanding of food wastage and food insecurity.

Elsa sold cookies as a Brownie for her schools Girl Guides and pledged to donate a dollar for every tin of cookies she sold. Elsa baked cookies and pledged to donate a dollar for every tin of cookies she sold. When she came across FBSG’s Bank Box at the Wisteria Mall, she decided to go shopping for our beneficiaries, guided by FBSG’s monthly Warehouse Wish list.

She acted as the perfect role model for her younger brother and enrolled him to donate his pocket money as well.

Junior Foodbanker, Elsa believes that by sharing her story widely, she will inspire other young leaders to drive change within their communities. She hopes educational institutes will hold regular food donation sessions to help reduce food wastage – a cause that strongly resonates with her. She is keen to join our warehousing and bundle packing sessions soon to continue to support our mission in every way possible.

There really is no #FoodWarrior quite like our Junior Foodbanker, Elsa!

Devendra

I firmly believe that everyone can do good and make a difference for the less fortunate sections of our society. It is not the quantity that matters but the quality. For example, a bundling activity can take as little as 2 hours but benefit a large number of disadvantaged people. The Food Bank Singapore makes it easy by providing several options – from warehouse maintenance to (food) bundling to simple cash donations.”

When Devendra Bisaria read the findings reported in FBSG’s Hunger Report Part 1, he was surprised to learn about the largely hidden problem of food insecurity in Singapore.

Changing the Present

Christmas is a time for cherished family and friends, and the season of giving. Here are 4 ways you can help FBSG fight food insecurity in Singapore, and ensure everyone has a happy Christmas.

#1 – Give a Gift that Matters

Image2-GiveAGift

Struggling to find the perfect gift for a loved one, friend or family member? Why not pledge a donation to FBSG in their name, and double the holiday love from you to your loved ones and another family served through your donation.

  • $50 – Supports a person for 15 days, through the Bank Card Programme
  • $100 – Supports a person for 30 days, through the Bank Card Programme
  • $200 – Supports a person for 60 days, through the Bank Card Programme
  • Custom amount – any contribution will help towards ending food insecurity

How do you do this?

  • The Food Bank Singapore is an approved Institution of a Public Character (IPC). All donations made to FBSG are entitled to 2.5x tax deductions in Singapore. * Only eligible for all residents of Singapore.
  • From your donation, your recipient will receive an e-card through an email address you’ve provided us with, personalized with your Name.
  • This e-card service will be open until December 18th 2022 and will be sent to your recipient the week before Christmas.
  • If you’d like the tax deduction to go to your recipient, in the ‘Tax Deduction Details NRIC/FIN Number’ field, simply enter their name and NRIC number instead.

#2 – Shop for the Food Bank Singapore on Amazon!

Image3-AmazonWishlist

We at FBSG understand that it can be difficult to find pockets of time to donate your time, but another way you can contribute to our fight against food poverty in Singapore is through Food Donations. And this year, we have an Amazon Wishlist with all the warehouse needs.

#3 – Hold a Fund Drive for FBSG

Image4-FundDrive

Did you know that 1 in 10 Singapore households are food insecure? Fund Drives are an important and impactful way everyday Singaporeans can join the fight against hunger.

An alternative to food drives is hosting a FUND Drive. Thanks to our various industry partnerships, we are able to negotiate better prices and buy MORE food using your monetary donations.

How do you do this?

  • Set up a Fundraiser on Giving.sg and share it with your friends and family!
  • Alternatively, you can start a fundraiser for Our Food Bank Cards that will receive 1:1 matching by the Tote Board.
  • If you wish to start a corporate donation campaign, please email enquiries@foodbank.sg for information on getting started.

#4 – Host a Food Drive for FBSG

Image5-FoodDrive

Food drives are a great way to involve your friends and family in the fight to end food insecurity and do something meaningful together in the process.

How do you do this?

  1. Collect donations for two weeks. Food drives can last however long you’d like, but most food banks recommend running your drive for at most two weeks.
  2. Focus on the most wanted items: Here is the list of the most needed items in our warehouse. Refer to our social media for updates on our latest updates.
  3. Drop-off your donations: There are two ways to go about this. If you have below 5 kg of food, you can drop them off at our Bank Boxes islandwide. Otherwise, please arrange to drop them off at FBSG’s warehouse by contacting enquiries@foodbank.sg

The Food Bank Singapore launches directory of food support

More than 150 organisations providing food aid are listed

Singapore – November 22, 2022 – The Food Bank Singapore (FBSG) today launched The Feeding Directory (FindFoodSupport.sg) to help those looking for food support near them.

More than 150 of FBSG’s feeding partners located across Singapore are listed in the directory.

Food aid is not new to Singapore with many groups providing assistance to the hungry since the nation’s independence. However, according to The Hunger Report Part II released in March, only 22 percent of those identified as food insecure households are receiving assistance.

“To achieve our goal of ending food insecurity in the next few years, FBSG feels that it is vital to find a way to let those in need know where the aid is,” said Nichol Ng, Co-founder of FBSG.

The Feeding Directory connects social workers, food insecure households and anyone in search of food support to organisations that provide food aid such as cooked meals, food vouchers, food rations, and even daily essentials from FBSG’s The Food Pantry vending machines.

Created after extensive groundwork, the website lets people search for food support by type of help needed, location of the nearest support organisations, and food and beverage (F&B) outlets that are part of FBSG’s Bank Card programme.

“The Feeding Directory is not just for populating locations of non-governmental organisations within our network, but also aims to become a national feeding directory where all organisations with a feeding programme will be listed. We are asking charities and the public to inform us if they know of more food programmes in Singapore. In isolation, we can do little but as a collective, we can move the needle for those facing hunger issues,” said Ng.

About The Food Bank Singapore Ltd
Established in 2012, The Food Bank Singapore (www.foodbank.sg) is Singapore’s first food bank and aims to be the prevailing centralised coordinating organisation for all food donations in Singapore. Driven by its mission to eradicate food insecurity of all forms in Singapore by 2025, the registered charity bridges potential donors and member beneficiaries by collecting and redistributing donated food. Its members are registered charity organisations or special organisations with a designated meal programme for low income and underprivileged individuals and families. Through a network of more than 300 such organisations of all sizes, the food bank serves more than 100,000 families and over 300,000 people with all kinds of food – from fresh to cooked.

Junior's Club 2022

During the June holidays, we had over 100 Juniors Club members gather from all over Singapore attend our June sessions! We had a fun and engaging “Adventures with Bala and Friends” programme for our children ages 5-9 years old and “Joy in Every Bundle” programme for our 10-16 years old. Our little ones participated in hands-on activities to develop an understanding of food waste and food insecurity.
What is FBSG’s Juniors Club Programme?

FBSG’s Juniors Club Programme builds awareness among the littlest members of our community and involves them in making an impactful, positive social change. Here at The Food Bank Singapore, we believe that it is critical to plant the seed of service and social responsibility starting at a young age. Through a range of experiential learning opportunities and a highly engaging curriculum, our young participants develop an understanding of food insecurity and food wastage in Singapore. This empowers them to take informed, purposeful steps towards ending hunger.

We are very grateful to all the children who attended these sessions and all the parents who supported our event! A big thank you to all the volunteers who led these sessions and not forgetting our very own FBSG team that made this possible.
AND IT’S A WRAP!

Here is how you can help:

KooriMo Cafe launches in Cobbleland, Sandbox!

Partake in a sumptuous meal of chilli crab, kaya toast, satay or donate to the food insecure by supporting the Koorimo Cafe, FBSG vending machine or better yet adopt Koorimo herself!

The Food Bank Singapore is honoured to announce our latest partnership with Smobler Studios to launch a new series of premium and essential asset collection featuring FBSG’s brand ambassador, KooriMo in Cobbleland. This is part of FBSG’s venture into tapping on the metaverse for good.

About the collection

A comprehensive collection of FBSG NFTs has been created by Smobler Studios in Cobbleland including KooriMo’s very own KooriMo Cafe that serves up its famous Kaya Toast, Kopi Tarik, Chilli Crab, Satay and popular bento boxes! There is even a Food Bank Vending Machine that dispenses food and grocery items using a food bank card! Each one of these assets come with their very own digital utility as well as a physical utility.

#metaverseforgood

Watch the interview between FBSG’s Co-founder Nichol Ng, Marketing Executive Subaa Subramaniam and Smobler Studio’s Co-founder Dr. Loretta Chen where they talk about why FBSG is venturing into the metaverse to do good and create an inclusive space on web3.

Life in the metaverse translates to doing good in real life

You can now support the food insecure in Singapore when you visit the KooriMo Cafe in Cobbleland. Partake in a meal of Singapore delights, dispense food from the FBSG vending machine or adopt KooriMo herself! This partnership with Smobler Studio will see 50% of the proceeds from asset sales donated to The Food Bank Singapore to create a brighter, food secure future for Singapore!

The full list of assets can be viewed on https://www.cobble.land/ and will be made available for sale on 12th August 2022 on The Sandbox Marketplace.

Double your impact with FBSG x Tote Board 1-for-1 campaign!

We are humbled and super ecstatic to share that we have just received a 1-for-1 grant from Singapore’s Tote Board!

In this grant, for every dollar that is donated, Tote Board will match the amount.

This means that the impact of every dollar donated to FBSG is now doubled!

How will your contribution help?

The funds we raise in this campaign will support our food aid programmes – Joy in Every Bundle, Food Bank Card and Tap-A-Meal.

With rising food prices and inflations driving core consumer prices, it has become more challenging and costly to provide food aid. What’s more, in these uncertain times, anyone and any family is susceptible to food insecurity.

Donate to the campaign on https://s.giving.sg/cpC5ja9 now and make your donations go twice as far! Fund our mission to build a brighter, food secure future!
