Drive Hunger Away returns with 450 cars and 26 tonnes of food

20 car clubs chip in to donate and deliver food to people in need

October 29, 2021 – Over two weekends, The Food Bank Singapore  (FBSG) welcomed 450 cars from 20 car clubs who donated 26 tonnes of food for its Drive Hunger Away event that was held in conjunction with World Food Day 2021 on  October 16. The event was extended from three to four days this year to give more  drivers the opportunity to participate.

“We are so thankful for the immense support from the participating drivers in  joining our fight to eradicate food insecurity in Singapore. Their efforts have not  gone unnoticed as more car clubs have told us that they want to be involved too so  we’re thinking of organising monthly food drives for different clubs,” said Nichol Ng,  Co-founder of FBSG.

Hello, drivers! Donate and deliver to Drive Hunger Away

Food drive to flag off on World Food Day on October 16

October 11, 2021 – The Food Bank Singapore (FBSG) today calls all car drivers to join its fight against food insecurity at the Drive Hunger Away event over two weekends – October 16 and 17, and 23 and 24.

Flagging off in conjunction with World Food Day on October 16, this year’s edition aims to bring a smile to beneficiaries as participating drivers deliver food bundles filled with local brands to them. And due to the overwhelming response last year, the event has been extended from three to four days to give more drivers the opportunity to participate.

FBSG is targeting to receive 100 tonnes of food donations (about three times the amount collected last year) and deliver 1,300 food bundles to 11 beneficiary centres that serve low-income households who cook. These centres are Bethel Community Services, Darussalam Mosque, Fei Yue FSC Bukit Batok, Lakeside FSC (Jurong East), REACH Community Services, Rotary FSC, Social Health Growth, The Salvation Army Balestier, The Salvation Army Kallang Bahru, Thye Hua Kwan FSC (Jurong), and United Indian Muslim Association.

About 450 cars from 18 car clubs have signed up to show their support in donating, collecting and delivering food bundles to FBSG’s warehouse at XPACE, 218 Pandan Loop. The participating car clubs are:

1. Audi R8 & Nissan GTR Owners Club
2. Bolt Group
3. Breakfast Drive by AGI
4. BMW 6 Series Club
5. BMW Car Club Singapore
6. BMW F22 Singapore
7. Grand Tourer Singapore
8. Horizon Drivers Club
9. Jazz Fit Club
10. Mini Mafia SG
11. Mustang Owners Club
12. SEAT CUPRA Owner’s Club
13. SG Convertible Club
14. Škoda Octavia Club Singapore
15. Supercars Of Singapore
16. Team CLA Singapore
17. The Serpents’ Pit (Alfa Romeo)
18. West Side Crew

Making it fun and enjoyable
While the pandemic has resulted in various restrictions, FBSG is sparing no efforts in making this event as fun and enjoyable as possible for all involved.

“The Food Bank Singapore is more than just about providing staples and food to fill tummies. We wanted to continue the trend that we have built over the years of creating innovative and interesting projects for donors, volunteers and partners. Not only do we want to raise awareness of hunger and why the fight needs to continue especially during these unusual times, but we also want to achieve our mission and purpose in a fun and enjoyable manner,” said Nichol Ng, Co-founder of FBSG.

Individual drivers can participate by sending their donations to FBSG’s warehouse on October 24, 2021 from 10am to 1pm.

Members of the public can drop their food donations at collection points in malls and Shell petrol kiosks across the island, where cars will collect from and deliver the food items to FBSG.
